If you enjoy working with others as a team, have strong communication skills and have the ability to manage a variety of responsibilities, becoming a dental assistant could be the perfect job for you. The dental assistant program at My Dental Assisting Institute will allow the student to participate in four-handed dentistry and chairside assistance with the dentist, schedule appointments for the patient, and perform other dental assistant duties which in turn provides the opportunity for dental assistants to see first hand what a critical role they will play in a busy dental environment.
Dr. Fulcher and other experienced dental assistants will instruct students on the basics of the dental profession, including anatomy and radiology. Students will also learn dental charting, dental management software, and lab techniques. The didactic portion of the dental assistant program at My Dental Assisting Institute is to prepare you to start working as a dental assistant once the program is done.
In the clinical learning portion of the dental assistant program at My Dental Assisting Institute, students will spend a total of 8 sessions (3 hours per session) in a clinical setting learning how to:
Sterilize and set-up rooms
Take dental x-rays
Take impressions and make whitening trays
Coronal polish and perform sealants
Assist/set-up all aspects of general dentistry
Navigate Dentrix Management Software
In the dental assisting portion of the dental assistant program, students will spend 2 sessions (6 hours) in a classroom setting reviewing for the Radiology Exam Certification. The remaining 4 weeks will be spent chair-side assisting on real patients during a variety of procedures, spending a minimum of 16 hours per week for a total of 64 hours. This will serve as their hands-on experience, thus not requiring completion of an externship. It is also expected that students will successfully pass their Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Exam administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) sometime during Block 3.
After successful completion of the 3 blocks, as successfully passing of the Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Exam administered by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB), students will graduate and be awarded a Certificate of Completion from My Dental Assisting Institute, in just 13 weeks!!!
